«THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCE CENTRE FOR MINING ENGINEERING
EDUCATION UNDER THE AUSPICES OF UNESCO»
The International Competence Centre for Mining Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO recently co-organized a major international forum at Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University from 11-15 November 2024. The event, titled "The Role of Engineering Education and Science in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals - New Challenges and Solutions," attracted representatives from UNESCO Headquarters, the World Engineering Association, the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology, and other prominent institutions.
Key topics of discussion included the role of international organizations and professional associations in sustainable national and global economic development, as well as the importance of human resources in state economic growth. A panel discussion also explored the contribution of science to sustainable development goals within the UNESCO Programme for 2024-2033.
Over 500 individuals from more than 30 countries participated in the forum, where the Iranian delegation has formed of the Vice-Minister of Science, Research and Technology in Iran (MSRT), Director for Research for MSRT, presidents of universities as well as faculty members.
In conjunction with the event, a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Research Institute for Earth Sciences, the UNESCO Chair on Coastal Geo-hazard Analysis, and VNIIOKeangeologia at a parallel meeting held at the Federal State Budgetary Institution "I.S. Gramberg All-Russia Scientific Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the Ocean" in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
