The UNESCO Chair on Coastal Geo-Hazard Analysis successfully hosted its webinar on Cambrian–Ordovician biodiversity events in Iran and their significance for global stratigraphic boundaries.
The session was presented by Dr. Hadi Jahangir, Special Research Assistant and PhD in Paleontology, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
During the webinar, Dr. Jahangir examined how fossil records from the Cambrian–Ordovician period in Iran contribute to ongoing discussions on global geological classifications and the redefinition of stratigraphic boundaries.
Key topics included Iran’s distinctive paleontological record, its relationship to major biodiversity turnovers, and the potential role of Iranian fossil assemblages in establishing revised global stratigraphic reference points.
The webinar also emphasized the importance of connecting regional paleontological research with broader discussions on Earth systems, climate futures, and international scientific collaboration.
