Webinar on Paleozoic Coral Extinction Events and Iranian Fossil Records

The UNESCO Chair on Coastal Geo-Hazard Analysis will host an online webinar examining Paleozoic coral extinction events and their effects on coral morphology and geographic distribution, with special emphasis on fossil records from Iran.

The session will explore how major extinction episodes influenced the evolutionary development, morphological limits, and geographic spread of Paleozoic corals. Drawing on evidence from Iranian fossil deposits, the webinar will highlight Iran’s importance in understanding ancient marine ecosystems and global paleobiogeographic patterns.

The webinar will be presented by Dr. Mahdi Badpa, Assistant Professor of Geology at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Vice President of the Executive Board of the UCCGHA.
