UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee (IBC) is currently preparing a new report examining anti-ageing technologies, social isolation among older adults, distributive justice, sustainability, and intergenerational

Greetings from Paris.

Having most recently published reports on the Ethical issues of synthetic biology research, development and application and the Ethical considerations for youth mental health in the digital environment, the International Bioethics Committee (IBC) is now working on a report on the Ethics of Ageing. We would like to cordially invite UNESCO Chairs and Members of the UNITWIN Networks who are working on related issues to come forward so that we may connect you with the IBC and that they may be able to benefit from your expertise.

The report aims to tackle issues such as:

• Anti-ageing technologies that aim at extending lifespan.
• Social deprivation and isolation of the elderly: their social and political participation in society.
• Distributive inequities: resource strain, sustainability, intergenerational justice (opportunity cost to young people).

Après avoir récemment publié des rapports sur les Enjeux éthiques liés à la recherche, au développement et à l’application de la biologie synthétique ainsi que sur les Considérations éthiques relatives à la santé mentale des jeunes dans l’environnement numérique, le Comité international de bioéthique (CIB) travaille actuellement sur un rapport consacré à l’éthique du vieillissement. Nous souhaiterions cordialement inviter les Chaires UNESCO et les membres des réseaux UNITWIN travaillant sur ces thématiques à se manifester afin que nous puissions vous mettre en relation avec le CIB et que celui-ci puisse bénéficier de votre expertise.

Le rapport vise notamment à traiter des questions suivantes :

• Les technologies anti-âge visant à prolonger l’espérance de vie.
• La privation sociale et l’isolement des personnes âgées : leur participation sociale et politique dans la société.
• Les inégalités distributives : pression sur les ressources, durabilité, justice intergénérationnelle (coût d’opportunité pour les jeunes).
