Joint Scientific Visits to Gold Deposits in the Birjand Region to Promote International Scientific Collaboration between the University of Zanjan and Saint Petersburg University, Russia
In line with expanding international scientific cooperation between the University of Zanjan and Saint Petersburg University of Russia, Dr. Hossein Kouhestani, Director of the International Scientific Cooperation Office of the University of Zanjan, together with Dr. Mir Ali Asghar Mokhtari, Secretary of the 1st International and 28th National Conference of the Geological Society of Iran and faculty member of the Department of Geology, and Professor Dmitry Konopelko, Professor at Saint Petersburg University, conducted a scientific field visit from Saturday to Tuesday (October 31 – November 4, 2025) to the gold deposits in the Birjand region, South Khorasan Province. These visits aimed to conduct geological fieldwork, sampling, and examination of drill-core logs to gain a better understanding of the geological and mineralization features of the regional gold deposits. During the program, Iranian and Russian researchers exchanged scientific ideas and discussed potential joint research collaborations in the fields of Economic Geology and Mineral Exploration. The University of Zanjan sincerely appreciates the valuable support and cooperation of the Country Exploration Services Company, operator of the visited deposits, for providing transportation, accommodation, and logistical assistance during the field activities.
